Congratulations to Guy Jedwab (not Jedward) who received a well deserved blue belt promotion from Kevin Chan last night at the Portsmouth class. Guy would like it known that he is from Cornwall and definitely not from Devon!

Medals at the English Open

Congratulations to students at Kamon BJJ who competed at the English Open in Dartford on 26^th & 27^th November. Around one thousand competitors entered over the two day event. Andy Law fought through tough competition in the blue belt feather weight masters division to win silver in his category and Sam Clarke won silver in the U45kg juvenile category. We are all very proud of both Sam and Andy who trained very hard for this event! Kamon BJJ has had a great year with competitions as we have taken home medals at every event we have entered and are expecting big things in 2012!

Class on the Beach!!

We are having an additional class tonight on the beach. All are welcome to come down and hangout. Have a bit of a roll dip in the sea and then perhaps finish it off with some fish and chips.

We’ll be down near the Inn on the Beach on Hayling Island from around 5:30 onwards.

GYM01 MMA and Submission Grappling Interclub

Kamon BJJ students competed at the GYM01 MMA and Submission Grappling Interclub in Portsmouth on Sunday 28^th August. The event was held at GYM01 which is the south coast’s biggest Mixed Martial Arts facility. Over 70 competitors from the biggest MMA gyms on the south coast came to compete in the event.

This was the first time that members of Kamon BJJ have entered an event of this type and gave dominating performances. In the submission grappling event Andy Law, Walt Willis, Michal Gawronski and Martin Dell dominated all their opponents using submission holds and positional dominance. In the MMA section of the event Martin Dell was set to face off against two opponents in the Lightweight division but unfortunately both chose to pull out of the competition on the day. Martin said “It was a fantastic day all in all. The team really pulled together and the results speak for themselves. I’d like to thank everyone one who helped us prepare for the competition. All the students at Kamon BJJ and Kevin Chan for pushing us in training. The club is growing from strength to strength and we are looking to do more competitions in the near future.”

Well done to all Kamon BJJ students who competed at the Brighton Open on Saturday 16th July. Paul O’Brien and Ben Sewell won gold medals in their divisions. Mark Whittington won Silver and Adam Sparrow won bronze. Other members who fought on the day and who did well were Andy Law, Alex Box, Walt Willis and Martin Dell. A big thank you to everyone who came and supported us on the day!!!

Medals at the Bournemouth Open

Congratulations to members of Kamon BJJ who competed at the Bournemouth Open on Saturday 18^th June. Out of eleven competitors from Kamon who competed five came home with medals. Phil Watts, Paul O’Brien, Zak Chiverton, Steven Leucaux and Martin Dell came home with 1 gold, 3 silver and 1 bronze. Alex Box, Andy Law, Walt Willis, Angelo Cascarini, Gareth Mowbray and Higino Rodrigues also fought very well on the day. Everyone who competed showed great technique and a lot of heart. A big thank you also to Kamon students who came to support and cheer for everyone who fought which gave a real family feel within the team.

Seminar with Mauricio Motta Gomes

Kevin Chan has once again arranged for his instructor, Roger Gracie’s father and 7th degree Red & Black Belt Mauricio Motta Gomes to come down for another Kamon BJJ seminar.

The seminar will be on Friday the 1st of July at the Priory School, 6pm – 9pm
Cost to Kamon members will be £35, for non members £40. Gi’s should be worn.

Southampton class closed

We’re sorry to say the Southampton class will be closed from now on. Unfortunately Phil Hamblin will be out of training for the rest of the year due to an injury and there’s no one available on Mondays to cover for him. We will be making an effort to restart the class at some point in the future so please watch this space.

Portsmouth Dragon Boat Festival 2011

We’re getting a Kamon Bjj team together for this year’s Portsmouth Dragon Boat Festival in Portsmouth.

The races will be on Sunday the 22nd of May, from 9am to 4pm. The costs of entering is £22 pounds each and all proceeds go to the Rowans Hospice.

We have already secured the team place so now we need 16 people plus one for the drummer. This is open to all Kamon BJJ members on a first come first served basis if you are interested get see Alex on a Thursday night to secure your place.
